Council President Kathy McBride will hold a Press Conference
Thursday, December 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the City Council Chambers.
In a statement issued Wednesday afternoon by council president Kathy Mcbride stated
NJSA 40:69A-43 clearly outlines that each Department in the City shall be headed by a director who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council.
McBride said she will be calling on the Mayor to properly vet and present qualified candidates to the City Council for its Advice and Consent as outlined in the Faulkner Act, the Memorandum of Understanding[MOU] between the City of Trenton and the NJ Department of Community Affairs [DCA] and relevant city ordinances.
In reference to the Acting Police Director, it is not the responsibility of City Council to “determine her fate.” It is up to the City Council to affirm qualified candidates presented by the Mayor and approved by the DCA.
Mayor Gusciora is being neglectful in following the proper protocols and procedures as outlined by law and is calling on Council to overlook this and approve unqualified individuals. It should be known that City Council is bound to uphold the law as legislators. We are not going to violate any law, at the expense of the Trenton City residents, to accommodate MayorGusciora.
