New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a detour of Route 206 for two nights this week for temporary repairs of a culvert located between Hillside Avenue and Arreton Road in Princeton.Beginning at 9 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, October 6 until 8 a.m. the next day, and again from 9 p.m. Saturday, October 7 until 8 a.m. the next morning, NJDOT’s contractor Mount Construction Co. Inc., will close Route 206 between Herrontown Road and Ewing Street to mill a section of the roadway, install large steel plates, and temporarily pave over the plates until a permanent repair can be scheduled.

Due to narrow roads with weight restrictions and limited lighting, the following separate detours for passenger vehicle and trucks will be in place:
PASSENGER VEHICLE DETOUR:
Northbound – From Route 206 north make a right onto Ewing Street, turn left onto Mount Lucas Road and turn left onto Herrontown Road, follow to Route 206.
Southbound –From Route 206 make a left onto Herrontown Road, turn right onto Mount Lucas Road and turn right onto Ewing Street, follow to Route 206.
TRUCK DETOUR:
Northbound – From Route 206 north take I-95 south to Route 31 north to Route 202 north back to Route 206 at the Somerville Circle.
Southbound –From Route 206 south take Route 202 south at the Somerville Circle to Route 31 south to I-95 north back to Route 206.
Last month, during a scheduled inspection, a more than 100 year-old 14-foot culvert located on Route 206/State Street between Hillside Avenue and Arreton Road in Princeton was identified as being in need of replacement. The new culvert is being manufactured and will be installed at a later date. NJDOT will provide an update before the replacement work begins.

Portable Variable Message Signs have been installed to provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weatheror other factors.
